Description: Released dramatically utilizes a balloon as the representation for the carbon dioxide emissions an average consumer uses per day. Following an individual through their normal daily routine the film attempts to effectively capture how common decisions and actions have a global impact. As the film progresses the 'emissions balloon' expands, a direct relationship to the amount of carbon the character emits based on her decisions throughout the day. In the end the film closes by showing the scope of this growing ecological problem when the focus is taken away from one person and expanded to the surrounding world community. By this effective visual imagery Released forces it's viewers to think about the dangerous consequences of ignoring feasible sustainable solution.
Purpose: We created this short film for the online competition at treehugger.com. Sadly we were unable to meet the deadline due to downloading issues... Honestly, we should have submitted earlier than last minute but they shut down the website 5 minutes before the deadline while we were in mid-upload! Needless to say, we are pretty happy with the final product. It was conceived, shot, and edited within a month. This is the first thing we have ever created in film and feel that its a decent starting point. Please post comments on the youtube site if you feel so inclined. We love any form of criticism or words of inspiration we can get. They helps keep us up at night while we edit.
NEWS 5.15.07: We are very excited to announce that this short film won a prize from the nice folks at Youthnoise.com for their Reducing Energy Consumption category. Check out the winners of the other categories: Conserving Resources, Reducing Toxic Chemical Consumption, and Reforestation. Congrats to all.
